Tools
JDBC4ELDAS
JDBC bridge driver between Java applications and ELDAS Grid data access
service. Used to enable Jena2 as a Grid service.
FEARLUS-G Ontology (OWL)
FEARLUS-G ontology OWL version (1.0 - 06/04/2005)
Protégé
Protégé is a tool developed by Stanford Medical Informatics which allows users to construct domain ontologies, customize data entry forms, and enter data. It is also a platform which can easily be extended to include graphical components such as graphs and tables, media such as sound, images, and video, and various storage formats such as OWL, RDF, XML, and HTML.
Protege was used extensively during the FEARLUS-G project (see Providing Ontology Support for Social Simulation).

ESRC
The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is the UK's leading
research funding and training agency addressing economic and social
concerns. ESRC aims to provide high quality research on issues of
importance to business, the public sector and government. The issues
considered include economic competitiveness, the effectiveness of
public services and policy, and our quality of life.
NCeSS
The National Centre for eSocial Science (NCeSS) aims to promote and facilitate eScience within social science research.
NCeSS consists of a co-ordinating Hub and a set of research-based Nodes distributed across the UK.
The Hub is based at the University of Manchester, with support from the UK Data Archive at the University of Essex.
The role of the Hub is to act as the central resource base for e-social science issues and activities in the UK,
integrating them with ESRC research methods initiatives and the existing e-science core programme.
The Hub provides a one-stop shop for awareness raising, expertise, training, technical infrastructure,
data resources, computer facilities and user-support for e-social science research.
Globus Toolkit
The Globus Toolkit is an open source software toolkit used for building
Grids. It is being developed by the Globus Alliance and many others all
over the world. A growing number of projects and companies are using
the Globus Toolkit to unlock the potential of Grids for their cause.
FEARLUS
FEARLUS is a part of the Land Use Change Modelling project within the
Land Use Change research programme at the Macaulay Land Use Research
Institute, Aberdeen.
Swarm
Swarm is a software package for multi-agent simulation of complex
systems; it is used by the FEARLUS land-use simulation.
Semantic Web
The Semantic Web provides a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application,
enterprise, and community boundaries. It is a collaborative effort led by W3C with participation from a large
number of researchers and industrial partners. It is based on the Resource Description Framework (RDF), which
integrates a variety of applications using XML for syntax and URIs for naming.
Semantic Grid
The Semantic Grid is an extension of the current Grid in which information and services
are given well-defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation.
This approach is essential to achieve the full richness of the Grid vision,
with a high degree of easy-to-use and seamless automation enabling flexible collaborations
and computations on a global scale.
